Johnson County Hospital approached Pact Studios in early 2023 to partner in planning for an addition to their existing critical access hospital facility in Tecumseh, Nebraska, as well as some reconfiguration of the existing adjacent spaces. In listening to and working with the client, Pact Studios was able to help develop an addition of approximately 18,000 square feet with internal renovation of about 10,000 square feet, bringing the total area of the facility to 65,000 GSF.

Within the addition, the client wanted to include both outpatient and inpatient spaces as well as a new drive-up, drop-off entrance. By incorporating the site grade within the new parking area, the design team was able to realize the new drop-off area which will be used for the new Outpatient Clinic and same-day surgery services. The entrance from the Drop-off area includes a two-story volume with clerestory windows to allow for natural light in a welcoming space connecting to both the clinic and surgery services.

The Outpatient Clinic features nine Exam Rooms, an Echo/Doppler room, a Treatment room, and Staff Offices with support space as well as access to the adjacent same-day surgery suite. The surgery area was expanded from a single Operating Room with one Prep/Recovery room to two Operating Rooms and eight PACU/Prep-Recovery rooms. A large central nurse station provides access and visibility to all adjacent recovery rooms and centrally-located support spaces minimize walking within the department.

The addition also includes a new permanent MRI imaging suite, relocated and expanded Conference Rooms, Dining area, and Laundry facilities. The Owner was also able to include expanded space for their Senior Solutions services and staff.

Some highlights of work within the existing building include. but are not limited to, reconfigured and expanded Locker Rooms, expanded support spaces for the Operating Rooms, relocation of Cardiac Rehabilitation to a larger space, and the reconfiguration of Food Services for better efficiency in connection to the new Dining area.

We are proud of our work in helping to bring this project towards reality for our partner and client, Johnson County Hospital. During the process, we worked closely with the entire design team, including E&A Consulting Group (Civil Engineering), Performance Engineering (Structure), Design Studio Blue (Interior Design and Furniture), Strategic Design (Mechanical Engineering), Specialized Engineering Solutions (Electrical Engineering), ADAMS (MEQ Planning), and Latitude (Signage). After the completion of Design Development documents, we also worked with the Client to bring aboard the Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR), AHRS.

With Construction Documents recently completed, we are excited to move forward into the Construction phase with an anticipated completion of February 2027!
